Glenn Phillips is not to be confused with Glen (one "n") Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. Funny story here: When I started getting into Glen (one "n") Phillips' solo music, I was searching far and wide for all of the albums that he had released. I came across an album called "Scratched by the Rabbit." I thought "I must have this album to complete my Glen (one "n") Phillips collection!" So I bought the sucker on eBay. Then I got the sucker in the mail. I read the back of the case which had a funny description of a man dreaming about some kind of Rabbit and he had to wake up and write an album about it...I thought: "that's strange." I noticed the year was 1990 and this discouraged me...I listened the first song which was instrumental. I became even more discouraged that maybe this wasn't the same Glen (one "n") Phillips I had come to know and love. Sure enough! This particular brand of "Glen" had two "nn's." Different guy. I wrote off the album as a complete loss until recently discovering that this two "n" Glenn is an amazing guitarist! The song listed above has incredible guitar work! He produces the closest thing to a real glissando that I have ever heard on a guitar (for those of you who aren't sure what I'm talking about: a glissando occurs (for example) on a trombone when you start on one note and litarally sliiiiide to another note "hitting each tone in-between." This is nearly impossible on many instruments). 'Nuff said.

The Glen (one "n") Phillips that you may be more familiar with hits #2 with his band Toad performing the song "Don't Go Away" which is my favorite on the album.
They Might Be Giants created a real winner when they wrote "Birdhouse in Your Soul." This song is about a night-light. Possibly the most bizarre and interesting subject for a song (at least the way they write it). Check out this lyrical tid-bit: "There's a picture opposite me of my primitive ancestry which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches ship-wreck free. Though I respect that a lot, I'd be fired if that were my job, after killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts." Muchos Kudos to TMBG (possibly the greatest two-John band ever formed).

Danny Elfman is amazing, both with Oingo Boingo and with all his movie soundtracks. Midnight Oil was a favorite of mine back in the day, and I rediscovered them just last week (it had been a while since I had listened to my cd). They are very very cool. Toad the Wet Sprocket is nice too although I have never heard the song you mention. My number 1 favorite definitely has to be the John-John duo with Birdhouse in Your Soul as well. woot!
